Setup with easyroam app

These instructions serve only as an extension to the official DFN documentation and may contain minor additions to it.

Automatic setup

  • Install the easyroam app from the Play Store
  • Open the app and select "Login through Website"

  • The easyroam "Where Are You From" page will open in a separate browser window
  • Select "Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences IDM" there

  • You then need to log in with your MIA account data

  • You will be automatically redirected back to the app and are now logged in there
  • Click on "Install new profile" to create a new profile and have the required information automatically installed on your system

  • Confirm the installation. Depending on the device, this process may take a moment
  • You may need to confirm the process a second time to allow automatic connections

  • After successful installation, the installed profile and the remaining validity period should be displayed in the app

  • From now on it should be possible to connect to the Wifi automatically or by selecting the SSID "eduroam"

If the connection still fails

With some Android devices, it can happen that no automatic connection to eduroam is established despite correct installation of the profile. In this case, some settings need to be set manually.

  • Open the Wifi settings and select "eduroam"
  • Set the following settings:
    • EAP method: "TLS"
    • CA certificate: "eduroam_WPA_EAPIEEE802X_TLS_NULL__de.dfn.easyroam_0"
    • User certificate: "eduroam_WPA_EAPIEEE802X_TLS_NULL__de.dfn.easyroam"
    • Identity: "Serial"@easyroam-pca.h-brs.de
  • The serial number can be viewed and copied by selecting "Manage" in easyroam

Manual setup

These instructions are only intended as a supplement to the official DFN documentation and may contain minor additions to it.

If you are using an Android version older than 10 or a system without Google Play, or prefer a setup without an app, you have the option to install the certificate manually.

  • Go to get.eduroam.de, select "Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences IDM" and log in with your MIA data
  • Select "Manual options" in the overview
  • Enter a name under which the new profile will be managed internally, e.g. "Android"
  • Select "PKCS12" and generate the profile

  • A .p12 file will be downloaded automatically
  • Install this file as a Wifi certificate in the login storage of your device
  • Navigate to "Manage profiles" on the easyroam website
  • Search for the profile you have just generated and open the detailed view by clicking on "More info"
  • Copy the Certificate serial number to the clipboard

  • Open the WLAN settings of your device and connect with the SSID "eduroam"
  • Set the following settings:
    • EAP method: "TLS"
    • CA certificate: "Use system certificates" or "None"
    • User certificate: The certificate installed from the .p12 file!
    • Identity: "Certificate serial number"@easyroam-pca.h-brs.de
  • The connection can then be confirmed and is ready to use
  • Observe the validity period of the certificate and renew it if needed in accordance with these instructions!
